Getting you connected safely
EASL works with you to get your project connected to the Northpower grid
Electrical Activation Services is an authorised Livening Agent for Northpower. We operate in the Northpower area from Kauri Forest and Whangaruru, to Pouto, Topuni and Mangawhai, including Whangarei and Dargaville, to provide electrical inspection and connection services to support electricians to get new builds connected, and for relocating power meters.
What we do
Electricity connections: We will visit your site to carry out the requisite electrical inspection of your installation, and if all is well, we will install a power meter, and complete the connection.
MEN Inspections: we can inspect and certify your new or altered MEN boards.
Meter contracting: we are contracted by electricity metering equipment providers to complete maintenance and renewal work of electricity meters in the Northpower area.
Northpower contracting: we are contracted by Northpower to replace failed/bypassed load control devices (LCDs, generally used to control hot water supplies).
Getting connected
If you're ready to get your new connection (Builders' Temporary Supply, Permanent Supply, or a meter relocation), talk to your power retailer and have your electrician talk to Northpower. Let them know you wish to use us as your livening agent.
Next, they'll let us know about your new connection, and we'll be in touch with you to arrange to get you connected.
How to prepare
Homeowners and builders:
Talk to your electrician who will arrange connection. Your electrician will advise you if you need to talk to your power retailer.
You can review Northpower's guide to getting connected here.
Electricians - for your site to be ready:
You or your customer need to raise a Metering Service Request (MSR) with your/their chosen electricity retailer. We are only able to confirm appointments where the MSR has been received by us from the retailer.
Your MEN board needs to be complete and compliant.
Meter board needs to be complete, have a space ready for the meter, and tails pre-wired to where the meter and Load Control Device (LCD, if any) are to be sited.
Cables need to be double-insulated within the meter box.
For pillar connections, the pillar end of your mains cable needs to have a lug fitted on the neutral wire. See Northpower pillar cable run guide here.
You need to complete a site Certificate of Compliance prior to our arrival - have a paper COC/ESC ready at inspection time, or email it through to us at coc@easl.co.nz referencing the site's address and ICP number. If you show the inspector an electronic COC/ESC at the time of inspection, please also email it to coc@easl.co.nz.
